Phuket's Phillips Group wins prestigious Asia Pacific and global property awards

18 October 2012

PHUKET: The OPP (Overseas Property Professional) Awards for Excellence 2012 for the real estate industry, now in the 5th year, held their Annual Presentation Award Ceremony in the City in London on 11 October.

Thursday 18 October 2012, 11:15AM

The awards were judged by a 50 strong panel of industry leaders from around the
world and celebrate the best developers, estate agents and associated companies
working in the global cross border residential property industry.

But it was a homegrown, Thailand based agency that took on the rest of the world
and swept the Awards in London at the agency level and in doing so proved that you
do not have to the biggest to be amongst the best.

The PHILLIPS Group, you know them as PHILLIPS Property (www.Phillips-, took to the podium twice with top place of Gold for Best Estate
Agency Asia and then Bronze for Best Global Estate Agency.

This follows on from 2011 when the company also won two spots in the Asia Pacific
Property Awards in association with Bloomberg in Shanghai. The Awards then were
for Real Estate Agency and Real Estate Agency Website, Thailand.

Scratch the surface and you will see that there is more to PHILLIPS Property than
meets the eye. From a local agency, they have spent considerable time innovating
and investing in and launching other branded services within Thailand and to the
broader Asia Pacific market. They are the name that sits behind a number of
potentially high-octane real estate related service innovations.

For example, they have developed the new international rentals portal, www.Rentals-, where landlords can now advertise their properties for rent and deal
directly with enquiries without paying agent fees.

“We developed Rentals-Worldwide to provide property owners with the opportunity to
go direct to market with their rental property and in doing so, save on agent fees. Of
course, owners can still appoint an agent together with Rentals-Worldwide. It widens
the net, increases the possibility of rental revenue and improves profit as bookings
through Rentals Worldwide are commission free” says Martin Phillips, Group MD.

Phillips also quietly entered the Hotel & Resort sales segment in 2011 through a new
service and brand,, and are quickly establishing a
reputation for facilitating sizeable hotel and resort deals in Thailand and the region.

“Valuations aside, resort and hotel deals are very much about confidentiality and trust
as they are about negotiation. The market and general public doesn’t need to know
what is happening until the deal is completed and we like to keep it that way, nice
and quiet”, comments Phillips.

And more recently, they identified an opportunity in the NPL/Distressed Asset market
in Europe and launched The company, under a cooperation agreement, now represents a joint portfolio of over Euro 1 Billion in offmarket and real estate asset backed NPL’s in Europe. These portfolios are now starting to be marketed in Asia by the group.

“When, not if, the global crisis worsens, this channel will become a major part of our
business”, states Phillips, “We just need to grow the service and establish a strong
reputation in this sector. I expect it to explode in the future”.

Asked if the Distressed Asset business could potentially launch a private equity fund,
allowing for general participation in the sector, Phillips, say that they have already
started to put in place a framework for investors through partners in London and that
more details would be announced when the timing was closer.

Said of the award, “We have been consistently innovating and establishing the
reputation of our local brand, starting with PHILLIPS Property and subsequently with
our new brands and services, both in Thailand and the Asia Pacific region. The OPP
Awards are a testament to our innovated approach, our strong sales & marketing
success and the core values of honesty and integrity across all of our dealings.”
